The two stations

Two metro stations share the name National Exhibition and Convention Center (国家会展中心站): one on Line 2 (formerly East Xujing, 徐泾东) and one on Line 17 (formerly Zhuguang Road, 诸光路). They were renamed in September 2024. [5, 9, 24, 18]
The two NECC stations are separate stations a few minutes' walk apart: to change lines you leave one station and enter the other. [8, 24]
Line 2 is no longer the terminus at NECC: since 1 November 2025 it continues one stop west to Panxiang Road · National Accounting Institute (蟠祥路·国家会计学院). Some older official pages still call NECC the terminus. (sources differ) [23, 25, 26]

Experience, not rules. Posts that sell something, or that we could not check, are left out. Most reports come from Auto Shanghai and fan conventions, far busier than a typical trade fair.

Budget an hour to get in on big show days. At Auto Shanghai 2025 a first-time visitor and a car journalist each reported about an hour from the metro to inside the first hall: passport registration, QR codes and a face-ID queue. (Auto Shanghai press and opening days; a quiet trade show will be faster.) [13, 14]
Same hour, from a car journalist. 'A solid hour of QR codes, passport checks and facial recognition' to get in on the Auto Shanghai 2025 media day; about 23,000 steps that day. [14]
Wear proper walking shoes. A Xinhua reporter who covers CIIE every year walks 20,000–30,000 steps a day; the 2025 expo covered about 430,000 m², roughly 60 football pitches. [45]
Halls are far apart around the clover. Getting to a hall in another leaf can mean walking all the way round; a visitor sat down for only 10 minutes in five hours. (Anime convention crowd (BW2025), not a trade show.) [46]
Evening traffic: take the metro. An auto analyst in Shanghai for Auto Shanghai 2025 got stuck in evening rush-hour traffic on the way to a dinner in Hongqiao and wished he had taken the metro. [47]
