Why go
Yuyuan Road (愚园路, not to be confused with Yuyuan Garden 豫园) runs west from Jing'an Temple towards Zhongshan Park through one of Shanghai's protected historic zones. Its garden lanes and villas date from 1919–1941, and its Changning section is now a lifestyle street with more than 110 shops and art spaces. It feels more local and less crowded than Wukang Road.
What to do
- Walk Jiangsu Road to Zhongshan Park. A 2026 visitor's two-hour route starts at Jiangsu Road station and ends at Zhongshan Park station, passing Lane 749, Rewi Alley's former residence, galleries, cafés and Lane 1088, with no backtracking.
- Peek into the garden lanes. Lane 749 (愚园路749弄) holds a cluster of English- and French-style villas; the end of Lane 1088 is known for a wall of yellow banksia roses in spring.
- Browse the shop windows. More than 110 shops and art venues line the street: design boutiques, flower shops, tailors and cafés such as BAsdBAN, Fumei Coffee and Money Shops, plus a gallery-like Converse store.
- Look for former residences. Writer Fu Lei and scientist Qian Xuesen are among the figures linked to the street; a Celebrity Wall and former residences mark their history.
- Don't miss: The dead end of Lane 1088 (愚园路1088弄): grey-brick lane houses under cascading yellow banksia roses in spring.
- Best time: Spring or autumn afternoons
- Skip if: Skip it if you want one big landmark; this is a slow street walk with shops and cafés.

Not found yet
- transport.metro[2].exit: No authoritative exit for Yuyuan Road: Line 2 exits at Zhongshan Park were renumbered (old 2–8 became 5–11), so older posts naming Exit 8 are unreliable; a shop listing puts Exit 5 about 300 m from 1327 Yuyuan Road. (searched: Trip.com Moments, DDG, government, Sogou web)
- hours: Two walking posts do not state a 24-hour operating rule for every lane or indoor venue. (searched: district/government web, visitor posts)
- transport.metro[1].exit: Exit 2 is a visitor route with one author; the official update confirms escalators but not the route to the walking start. (searched: government metro update, visitor post, local guide)
Traveler tips
- Start at Jiangsu Road station, walk west. Take Metro Line 2 or 11 to Jiangsu Road (江苏路). Exit 3, at the south-west corner of Yuyuan Road and Zhenning Road, reopened at the end of April 2026 with both up and down escalators, which helps with luggage. Walk west along Yuyuan Road and finish at Zhongshan Park station (Lines 2, 3, 4) about two hours later. source
- Follow a no-backtrack route. A 2026 route: Jiangsu Road station Exit 2 → Lane 749 villa cluster (愚园路749弄) → Rewi Alley's former residence (路易·艾黎故居, free) → Tangwu dessert shop → FIU Gallery → Money Shops for brunch on the lawn → Lane 1088 → Zhongshan Park station. Allow about two hours. source
- Find the yellow flower wall in Lane 1088. A 2026 visitor located a seasonal flower wall at Lane 1088 Yuyuan Road (愚园路1088弄) and preferred late morning light. Another visitor photographed yellow flowers in an unnamed lane at a different time, so do not assume the two posts describe the same wall. Caveat: The Lane 1088 location has one author. Flowers and accessible viewing areas change by season. source
- Window-shop the small stores. The street is known for shop windows: visitors list BAsdBAN, Fumei Coffee, ABOUT FLOWER, Sifang Suits and Money Shops. A new Converse store laid out like an unfinished gallery opened in 2026, with installations such as a giant mechanical sparrow. (2 travelers) source
- Choose it over Wukang Road for a quieter walk. Visitors describe Yuyuan Road as quieter and more local than Wukang Road or Anfu Road, with similar plane trees, Art Deco houses and artisan bakeries such as Pain Chaud and Seesaw Coffee. Jiangsu Road station is about five minutes away. (2 travelers) source
- Do not confuse it with Yuyuan Garden. 愚园路 (Yuyuan Road, Jing'an/Changning) and 豫园 (Yuyuan Garden, old city) share the same pinyin. When using a map app or taxi, type the Chinese 愚园路 or show the station name 江苏路. source
