Why go
Xixi National Wetland Park (西溪国家湿地公园) is Hangzhou’s wetland west of West Lake: fish ponds, reed beds, persimmon groves and old waterside villages laced with boat routes and causeways. It suits a half day when West Lake feels crowded. The park splits into a free strip along the Fu Causeway and a ticketed core entered at Zhoujiacun or Longshezui, and the boats are paid separately.
What to do
- Ride the electric boat loop from Zhoujiacun. Line A runs about an hour past Yanshui Yuzhuang and Shentankou and returns to the main pier, with stops you can leave at, so it works as transport and sightseeing.
- Hire a hand-rowed boat. A hand-rowed boat (摇橹船) seats 2–6 people on narrow lanes and is charged per boat for a set time; free-zone piers give shorter rides on smaller water.
- Walk Hezhu Street and the Fu Causeway. The free strip has the old lane of Hezhu Street, Hezhu Tower, Jiangcun Slow Life Street and Gaozhuang, reachable from the North Gate on Line 19.
- Visit the China Wetland Museum. A free museum refurbished in 2024 with immersive halls and a wetland story of Xixi, a good rain fallback; it is closed on Mondays.
- Pick the season. Plum in late winter, lotus in summer, persimmons in autumn and reeds in late autumn change what you see more than any other Hangzhou sight.
- Don't miss: Qiuxue'an, the reed island reached by boat, and the Gaozhuang garden on the Fu Causeway.
- Best time: Opening hour, outside midsummer
- Skip if: It is deep winter or high summer and you only plan to walk; the free strip alone fills a short visit.

- Xixi Wetland WeChat account (西溪湿地(微信公众号)→ 门票预约) — WeChat → search 西溪湿地 → menu 门票购买
- Zhoujiacun entrance ticket windows (周家村入口售票窗口)
- Passport accepted: unknown — One traveller bought tickets at a window and showed a passport for a child's age check (Sep 2025); the WeChat flow asks for a Chinese ID number.
- The 7-day, 9-person and one-per-ID rules come from Bendibao copies and China for Travelers rather than from the park itself. One traveller bought tickets at the entrance windows without booking in Sep 2025.

- transport.metro[0].exit: The operator names the station but no exit; the exit letter appears only in Trip.com posts (one with a masked author) and a commercial guide. Two Xiaohongshu authors (喵バ日记, Apr 2026; 拾穗的旅行日记, Sep 2025) write exit A for Xixi Wetland South, but only the first is within twelve months. (searched: operator WeChat article, Trip.com Moments, English guide, Bendibao, Xiaohongshu)
- booking.passport.accepted: No operator page states passport rules; the WeChat flow shown by Bendibao asks for a Chinese ID number and only one traveller (mokoko, Sep 2025) describes a window purchase with a passport. (searched: operator WeChat article, Bendibao, personal blog, English guide, Xiaohongshu)
- admission.paidExtras[1].amount: The hand-rowed boat is priced per boat and per route; sources give ¥100 per hour, ¥69–288 per hour or ¥200 for two hours, and no operator price list was found. (searched: operator WeChat article, English guide, personal blog)
- booking: The park's own booking rules (advance days, whether walk-in sales are open to everyone, real-name check) are not listed by the operator; Bendibao and China for Travelers describe the WeChat flow and one traveller bought at a window in Sep 2025. (searched: operator WeChat article, Bendibao, web search, Xiaohongshu)
- foreignVisitors.idToBring: Only one traveller (Sep 2025) describes showing a passport, and the operator publishes no rule on what foreign visitors must bring. (searched: operator WeChat article, web search, English blogs, Xiaohongshu)

Traveler tips
- Choose the free strip or the ticketed core before you pick a station. Xixi Wetland (西溪国家湿地公园) is two experiences. The free strip runs along the Fu Causeway (福堤), Hezhu Street (河渚街), the Green Causeway (绿堤), the Lianhuatan bird-watching area, the sculpture garden and Wujiawan old street, and you can enter it from the North Gate on Wenerxi Road, the Xixi Tiantang entrance or the Wujiawan entrance. The ticketed core (deep boat lanes, Shentankou, Yanshui Yuzhuang) is entered from Zhoujiacun on Tianmushan Road or Longshezui. Caveat: Free areas are listed in the Manmankan item (Jan 2026) and by China for Travelers (Aug 2026, affiliate-linked). The operator's spring 2025 article confirms that free-zone visitors may only use the sightseeing cart inside the free zone. The Bendibao item of 11 Sep 2026 lists a separate free ticket type for the Green Causeway including Lianhuatan, so that stretch may need a free booking. Xiaohongshu authors repeat that the free zone (Fudi, the green causeway, Hezhu Street, Gaozhuang, the lotus-beach bird area and the Wetland Museum) is enough for a half-day: 木言 (23 Aug 2026, an experienced local), 鱼小鱼儿 (27 Mar 2026), 凤梨不做菠萝 (1 Jul 2026), 从我的全世界路过 (28 Apr 2026) and 猫之使徒 (19 Feb 2026, who found the paid zone not worth ¥120 with a boat). 木言 says the ticket is worth buying for the plum season, the reeds in November and December, and the rowing boats. (5 travelers) source
- Match the metro station to the part of the park you want. Line 3 'Xixi Wetland South' (西溪湿地南) is the stop for the Zhoujiacun main entrance, the visitor centre and the main boat piers. Line 19 'Xixi Wetland North' (西溪湿地北) leads to the North Gate and the free strip. On Line 3, Huawu (花坞) is for the Gaozhuang walking entrance, Dongyue (东岳) is for the China Wetland Museum, and Hongyuan (洪园) is for the Longshezui entrance. Caveat: The station-to-entrance pairing is in the operator’s spring 2025 article. Exit letters come only from Trip.com posts and a commercial guide: one post (Sep 2026, an anonymous author) says Exit A at both Xixi Wetland South and Hongyuan; a partner-translated post (Apr 2026) says Exit E2 at Xixi Wetland North and Exit A at Dongyue; China for Travelers agrees on A and E2. The operator gives no exit letters. Four Xiaohongshu authors in 2026 (凤梨不做菠萝, 从我的全世界路过, 一诺杭游记, 肥仔周游记) all name exit E2 of Xixi Wetland North on line 19 for the North Gate; 喵バ日记 (14 Apr 2026) and 拾穗的旅行日记 (17 Sep 2025) name exit A of Xixi Wetland South on line 3 for the Zhoujiacun entrance. - One ¥80 ticket covers both the east core and Hongyuan. The adult ticket is ¥80 and is not valid for boats. Half price is ¥40 for ages 6–18, full-time students up to undergraduate level, children 1.2–1.5 m and Chinese citizens aged 60–69. Free entry applies to children up to 1.2 m, Chinese citizens aged 70 and over, and some documented groups. Foreign seniors should expect the full ¥80, and the listing does not say whether a foreign student card counts. The park’s two sides are no longer sold separately, so the same ticket works at Zhoujiacun and at Longshezui in Hongyuan. Two Xiaohongshu travellers write that a Hangzhou park annual card or the ¥29.9 culture-and-tourism card (activate two hours before use) covers the paid zone; these are local cards, and no source says whether foreign visitors can get one. Caveat: Prices ¥80 and ¥40 agree across Bendibao (Sep 2026), Manmankan (Jan 2026) and mokoko, who paid ¥80 and ¥40 at a window in Sep 2025. The 'one ticket for both zones' wording is from Bendibao's two entrance addresses and China for Travelers; the operator's spring 2025 article only says ticket holders may ride the cart on all three phases. Some English blogs describe the west side as free, which conflicts with that. 鱼小鱼儿 (27 Mar 2026) gives ¥29.9 and the two-hour activation; 喵バ日记 (14 Apr 2026) writes ¥29; 从我的全世界路过 (28 Apr 2026) mentions the card in passing. None tests whether a foreigner can buy or activate it with a passport or a foreign phone number. (4 travelers) source
- Electric boat: Line A is the useful loop. The electric boat is ¥60 per person and is sold separately from the ticket. Line A leaves the Zhoujiacun main pier and loops through Yanshui Yuzhuang, Shentankou and Jiaolu Tianzhuang, taking about an hour on board; you can get off at the stops to see the Yanshui Yuzhuang exhibition halls, the Shentankou camphor tree and old stage, and Jiaolu Tianzhuang with its Cai Zhizhong art museum, and Hezhu Street is a walk from the route. Line B (Longshezui – Hongyuan) is a shorter loop of about 50 minutes. Caveat: Routes, duration and the weekend-only rule for individual visitors on Line B come from the operator's spring 2025 article. A Sep 2026 Trip.com post found Route B less interesting than Route A. The ¥60 price is on a Bendibao boat page, in the 2024 Shihua Shanhe item and, as the half-price ¥30 for children, in the Manmankan item. 喵バ日记 (Apr 2026), 木言 (Aug 2026) and 拾穗的旅行日记 (Sep 2025) all write ¥60 per person with fixed stops; 喵バ日记 says the last boat is at 17:00 in winter and 18:00 in summer. (3 travelers) source
- Hand-rowed boats: priced per boat, free-zone and paid-zone piers, and board before 10:00. The hand-rowed boat (摇橹船) seats 2–6 people and is charged per boat for a set time; the commonly quoted base rate is about ¥100 per hour. Longer tea or meal packages cost much more. One traveller (Sep 2025) left a ¥400 deposit at the Zhoujiacun window, chose a two-hour route and got ¥200 back to WeChat Pay. Ask the total for the whole boat and the duration before paying. The operator runs six hand-rowed pier groups that do not connect to each other. Zhoujiacun and Hongyuan are in the paid zone; the North Gate, Fu Causeway (Hezhu Street), Yinxiang (Longshezui) and Shizigang piers are in the free zone. A free-zone ride stays on short, smaller water and does not reach the deep lanes of the ticketed core. At the Fudi pier (福堤码头) the ticket window now sells only a one-hour boat. If you want the two-hour route (¥200), tell the boatman about ten minutes after leaving and they will show a QR code to scan; asking late can mean repeated water. The last boat at 16:30 can only do one hour, and a two-hour trip must board by 15:30. The one-hour loop stays near the Jiangcun market and is thought poorer than the two-hour one. Several visitors found the rowing-boat queue short in the early morning and long later. At the Zhoujiacun pier on a Spring Festival morning there were four or five people at 08:30 and a very long line by 10:00; on a weekday in April a boat left at 10:30 without a wait. Staff take a lunch break from 11:00 to 13:00, and afternoons usually queue. At National Day, a walk-in traveller entered by the North Gate, rode the sightseeing cart (¥10 a leg or ¥30 a day) to the Hezhu Street pier and queued one to two hours there; the cart stopped at 16:45, so reach the pier by 15:30. Caveat: mokoko left a ¥400 deposit at the Zhoujiacun pier on a weekday in Sep 2025, chose a two-hour route with the boatman and got ¥200 refunded to WeChat Pay on return. The ¥100 per hour base rate is from China for Travelers and TripChina (both commercial sites), and the 2024 Shihua Shanhe item lists ¥69–288 per hour per boat. The operator’s 2025 article says 2–6 passengers per boat but gives no rowing-boat price. Seven Xiaohongshu authors agree on ¥100 per boat per hour (2 to 6 passengers): 李崔米 (Apr 2026) says a boat can hold 2 to 4; 木言 (Aug 2026) adds a shared seat at ¥69; 拾穗的旅行日记 (Sep 2025) mentions a ¥400 deposit. 高奶高糖高脂肪 (Aug 2025) gives ¥100, ¥200 and ¥300 for one, two and three hours, and complains of pink snail eggs on the banks in some seasons. Pier groups and the paid/free split are from the operator’s spring 2025 article; the operator’s weibo of 25 Sep 2026 lists four piers (Yinxiang, North Gate, Hongyuan, Shizigang) for its persimmon-season shared boats. China for Travelers (Aug 2026) says the Fu Causeway route disappoints visitors expecting the paid-zone experience. Istina (27 Jun 2026) boards at the free-zone Fudi pier (P5 and P6 car parks, ¥5 an hour, opposite the Starbucks); 李崔米 (26 Apr 2026) boards at the paid-zone Zhoujiacun pier, which they find the quietest; 主持人|晏菱 (19 Apr 2025) says the North Gate entrance needs no ticket for the boat. Istina (27 Jun 2026) describes the window rule and the QR; 高奶高糖高脂肪 (8 Aug 2025) adds that the two-hour route enters the paid water, but a March 2026 update says routes have changed and a March 2026 reply reports the boatman refusing the paid area. Do not count on seeing the paid-zone channels from this pier. 大旺冷静 (25 Feb 2026), 李崔米 (26 Apr 2026), 高奶高糖高脂肪 (8 Aug 2025) and Akaneqwq (5 Oct 2025) describe different piers and seasons; the pier at Fudi and the pier at Zhoujiacun do not share one queue. (10 travelers) source
- Foreign visitors: staffed windows have taken a passport. The ticketed zone is sold in real-name form and the WeChat flow asks for an ID-card number, so a staffed window is the route to try with a passport. One traveller (Sep 2025) bought tickets at the Zhoujiacun window and showed a passport for a child’s discount, and a commercial guide says windows take a passport original. Bring the physical passport. Caveat: mokoko bought adult and child tickets at the Zhoujiacun entrance window in Sep 2025 and showed a passport to prove a child’s age. The Bendibao booking walk-through (Aug 2026) lists ID number, name and phone as required fields. The park does not publish a passport rule, and China for Travelers is an affiliate-linked site. source
- Set up WeChat Pay or Alipay before you arrive. One traveller paid the rowing-boat deposit and got the refund through WeChat Pay at the ticket window. Set up Alipay or WeChat Pay before you arrive, since no source tests a foreign card at the Zhoujiacun windows. Caveat: mokoko, a Japanese resident of China, paid the deposit through WeChat Pay in Sep 2025 and got the refund back to the same account at the ticket window. China for Travelers gives the same general advice. source
- Boats stop selling well before the park closes. The park closes at 17:30 until 31 October (17:00 from 1 November), but the city tourism page says ticket sales and entry stop at 16:30 from April to October and 16:00 from November to March. Boat tickets stop earlier still, so plan to be on the water by mid-afternoon, since boatmen must be back before the park closes. Caveat: Commercial guides give 08:00–17:30 from 8 October, with ticket sales to 16:30 and last entry at 17:00, and Trip.com's live panel on 8 Oct 2026 showed 09:00–17:30. The city page is from 2022 and the park has not published its 2026 timetable. China for Travelers also reports boats ending around 15:40 despite later posted times; Ctrip puts boat ticket sales at 08:00–16:15 in winter. Xiaohongshu reports: rowing boats run 07:00–16:30 in summer with the last one-hour boat at 16:30 and the last two-hour boat boarding by 15:30 (Istina, Jun 2026); sales stop at 16:45 (喵バ日记, Apr 2026); ticket sales stop at 16:30 and the park closes at 17:30 (拾穗的旅行日记, Sep 2025); carts stopped at 16:45 at National Day (Akaneqwq, Oct 2025). (4 travelers) source
- China Wetland Museum is the wet-weather fallback, but not on Mondays. The China Wetland Museum (中国湿地博物馆, Tianmushan Road 402) is free, open Tuesday to Sunday 09:00–16:30 with entry until 16:00, and closed on Mondays except public holidays. It sits by Dongyue station on Line 3 and was refurbished in 2024 with a 32.5 m immersive screen and live reptile displays. Caveat: The museum's 2024 reopening article says visitors could reserve through the 'Boyueyou' mini-program, while the Bendibao page (Nov 2025) and Harris Johnathan Jon (Apr 2026) say individuals need no reservation; the group booking rule needs 50+ people. momo (14 Oct 2025) walked a kilometre from Gaozhuang to the museum on a Monday and found it shut; 溪芝雪月 (15 Apr 2025) also writes closed on Mondays. (2 travelers) source
- A no-backtracking half-day: North Gate to Dongyue. Take Line 19 to Xixi Wetland North, walk through Jiangcun Slow Life Street to Hezhu Street and its Hezhu Tower, continue along the Fu Causeway (the cart is ¥10 a leg), see Gaozhuang, then end at the China Wetland Museum and leave via Dongyue station on Line 3. It stays inside the free strip, takes about four hours with the museum and does not return to the start. Caveat: Route from Harris Johnathan Jon (Trip.com Moments, Apr 2026, a partner post translated by the platform); China for Travelers proposes the same direction. Cart and train fares in the post differ slightly from Bendibao's 2025 list (cart ¥10 a leg, ¥30 loop; train ¥20 single, ¥30 round trip). 凤梨不做菠萝 (Jul 2026) walks the North Gate, Jiangcun, Hezhu Street and Gaozhuang in 2.3 km; 鱼小鱼儿 (Mar 2026) adds the pagoda, the 'Xixi Qieliuxia' wall and Fudi; 大旺冷静 (Feb 2026) takes the boat first, then the cart to Gaozhuang and Hezhu Street. (3 travelers) source
- Sightseeing cart: wristband zones and fares. The cart is ¥10 per leg or ¥30 for the loop ticket. Ticket holders can ride in all three phases; visitors without a ticket may only ride inside the free zone. Changing at Hezhu and Hongfu stops means queuing again. Caveat: Fares are from the operator's 2025 listing as republished by Bendibao. Half price is ¥5 per leg and ¥15 for the loop for children 1.2–1.5 m (Manmankan, Jan 2026). 拾穗的旅行日记 (Sep 2025) writes ¥10 a leg and ¥30 for the loop with children under 1.2 m free; 大旺冷静 (Feb 2026) bought the ¥30 ticket for unlimited rides at the Zhoujiacun visitor centre, and 凤梨不做菠萝 (Jul 2026) paid ¥10 from the North Gate to Gaozhuang. (3 travelers) source
- Typhoon closures happen: look for the park notice that morning. A typhoon can close the whole park for a day or more, and some boat lines and the museum boat can restart later than the gates. In typhoon season, read the park's weibo or WeChat notice before you leave. Caveat: In August 2026 the park closed from 9 August and reopened on 11 August at 10:00, with the phase-three boats and the museum boat line still stopped (Hangzhou.com.cn, 11 Aug 2026, quoting the park's notice). China for Travelers reports a similar July closure. source
- Seasons: plum, lotus, persimmon, reeds. Plum blossom comes in February to early March, lotus in June to August, persimmons in September to October and the reed 'flying snow' from mid-November to early December around Qiuxue'an. Early September shows only green foliage; late July–August is hot and mosquito-heavy. Caveat: Month ranges come from China for Travelers (Aug 2026); the 2024 Shihua Shanhe item lists the same four seasons without dates, and a Sep 2026 Trip.com post found no autumn colour, plum, osmanthus or lotus in bloom in early September. 木言 (Aug 2026) says to skip July and August noon (heat and mosquitoes) and deep winter, and to visit the lotus at Longshezui; 李崔米 (Apr 2026) warns of fierce mosquitoes. (2 travelers) source
- Watch for the exit turnstile beside the Shentankou shop. China for Travelers, a commercial guide, warns that the cultural-creative shop beside Shentankou has an exit leading onto a turnstile. Going through it can put you outside the scenic area, several kilometres from another gate. Ask staff how to get back in before using that door. Caveat: Single affiliate-linked guide. A Sep 2026 Trip.com post says the ticket allows re-entry on the same day, and the ticket terms on Bendibao say each person may pass each gate once a day, so the exact re-entry rule is unclear. 大旺冷静 (Feb 2026) also writes to keep the ticket after leaving through Gaozhuang and Hezhu Street, because it is checked again at Shentankou to re-enter the paid zone. source
- On peak holidays take the metro: gates can close to cars. At peak times, parking at Zhoujiacun and the North Gate can fill up and the park may bar cars from those gates; the Fu Causeway runs one way for vehicles entering from the North Gate and leaving at Gaozhuang South. Taxis can drop at the bus stop west of Zhoujiacun or on Ziyun Street for the North Gate. Caveat: Rules are from the operator's May Day 2025 notice and may not repeat; read the park's current notice. Parking reports: 肥仔周游记 (Feb 2026) parks at the West Lake culture and sports centre for ¥4 an hour and walks seven minutes to the North Gate; 鱼小鱼儿 (Mar 2026) cites ¥0.08 a minute at the North Gate; Istina (Jun 2026) says the North Gate lot is a 20-minute walk from the Fudi pier; 喵バ日记 (Apr 2026) gives ¥5 an hour, capped at ¥40, at Zhoujiacun, tight on weekends. (4 travelers) source
- Tea on the rowing boat costs ¥30 to ¥40 and nobody has to buy it. The boat fare is collected by the park and the boatmen earn a fixed wage, so there is no commission on the route. Tea on board runs ¥30 for a cup and a sunflower-seed plate ¥30, or about ¥40 a cup in the October week; free hot water is provided and you can bring your own drinks and snacks from Hezhu Street. Paying for tea is a courtesy, and the boatman may tell you more about the place. Caveat: Prices come from Istina (27 Jun 2026) and Akaneqwq (5 Oct 2025); 高奶高糖高脂肪 (8 Aug 2025) and 喵バ日记 (14 Apr 2026) both say there is no pressure to buy. (4 travelers) source
- Luggage lockers beside the metro exit at the North Gate. To visit the free zone without bags, use the lockers on the left as you leave Xixi Wetland North station (line 19, exit E2). The first hour is free and each hour after that costs about ¥2 for a small locker; medium and large lockers cost more (about ¥4 and ¥6 an hour), and the large one holds a suitcase. Caveat: 凤梨不做菠萝 (1 Jul 2026) used a small locker and only guessed the medium and large rates; the author walked from the North Gate to Gaozhuang and then took the Xixi train to the Wetland Museum. A reply asks how to collect the bag after the museum. source
