Notices in effect
- 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-07: Dongjin ferry (Dongchang Road–East Jinling Road) is suspended from 12:00 through the 18:30 end of daily ferry service; no same-evening resumption. This is not a notice for all ferry lines.
- 2026-09-30 to 2026-10-07: For a westward walk toward Waibaidu Bridge and the Bund, check taxi access: 16:30–23:30 the Puxi motor-vehicle ban covers interior roads of the named zone, excluding its boundary roads. This does not close the North Bund public promenade.
- 2026-10-01 to 2026-10-07: Tiantong Road station, useful for the western riverside, is expected to be busy during the holiday; staff may limit or divert entry if crowds build. No planned closure of this station is stated.
Why go
The North Bund riverside (北外滩滨江) runs along the Huangpu in Hongkou, from the Shanghai Port International Cruise Terminal west towards Waibaidu Bridge. You get the same Lujiazui skyline as on the Bund, plus a side view of the Bund's old buildings, but with a wide promenade and far fewer people. The 880 m cruise-terminal wharf has been open to the public since 2021.
What to do
- Walk the cruise-terminal wharf. Stroll the 880 m wharf in front of the International Passenger Center (国客中心), opened to the public in 2021, for a straight-on view of Lujiazui's towers and passing river boats.
- Follow the riverside to Waibaidu Bridge. See the Little Egg (北外滩小巨蛋) near the cruise-terminal public space, then treat The Grand Halls (世界会客厅) at 8 North Bund Road as a separate landmark before continuing toward Waibaidu Bridge.
- Shoot from the bridges. Zhapu Road Bridge (乍浦路桥), where Suzhou Creek meets the Huangpu, frames Waibaidu Bridge, the Bund buildings and Lujiazui together; the footbridge by the Little Egg gives reflections.
- See the lights from above. After dark, The Stage observation deck at Sinar Mas Plaza (上海白玉兰广场), about 320 m up, looks over the Bund, Lujiazui and the North Bund; it is a separate paid attraction.
- Don't miss: Zhapu Road Bridge at blue hour: Waibaidu Bridge, the Bund facades, Suzhou Creek and the Lujiazui towers in one frame.
- Best time: From 15:00 to after dark
- Skip if: Skip it if you have already spent an evening on the Bund and do not need another skyline view.

Traveler tips
- Take Line 12 to International Cruise Terminal, Exit 3. Ride Metro Line 12 to International Cruise Terminal station (国际客运中心) and leave by Exit 3; the riverside at the terminal is about 400 m away. If you take a taxi, ask for North Bund Navigation Park (北外滩航运公园). (2 travelers) source
- Use the North Bund to avoid the Bund crowds. Several 2026 visitors went to the North Bund instead of the packed Nanjing Road end of the Bund: the promenade is wide, there is room to sit, and you see the Lujiazui towers and the Oriental Pearl Tower straight across the river. It is an alternative when the Bund end is crowded. Caveat: One guide-writer recommended this during the October 2026 holiday; crowd levels and on-site flow vary by day. (4 travelers) source
- Follow an eastward 1.5-hour photo route. One route: International Cruise Terminal station Exit 3 → corner of Dongchangzhi Road and Lushun Road → Changzhi Road/Jiulong Road → International Port Building → Manner Coffee (riverside branch) → the 'Little Egg' → Gate of Music → North Bund Yacht Station → Gongping Road Ferry Pier. It takes about 1.5 hours; start after 15:00 and stay for sunset. Caveat: Gongping Road Ferry Pier is a walking-route endpoint here; no current crossing route or last departure from that pier has been verified. source
- Shoot from Zhapu Road Bridge at blue hour. Zhapu Road Bridge (乍浦路桥), just west of the North Bund where Suzhou Creek meets the Huangpu, lets you frame Waibaidu Bridge, the Bund buildings and Lujiazui in one picture. Two 2026 visitors recommend the blue hour after sunset. On festival nights, the cruise-terminal wharf is quieter after about 21:00. (2 travelers) source
- Add The Stage for a night view from above. For a one-evening plan: reach the riverside around 18:00, walk 30–45 minutes, then go up The Stage observation deck at Sinar Mas Plaza (白玉兰广场), about 320 m high, after 19:00 for a 360° view of the Bund, Lujiazui and the North Bund. Allow about 45 minutes up top; tickets are separate. source
- Check the ferry suspension during National Day. On 1–7 October 2026, the Dongjin ferry (Dongchang Road–East Jinling Road) suspends service from 12:00 through its 18:30 end of service that day; it does not restart after 18:30. This notice says nothing about a Gongping Road ferry, so for a river crossing use a separately verified route and last departure. source
