## Why go

The Museum of Art Pudong (浦东美术馆, MAP) sits on the Lujiazui riverfront right below the Oriental Pearl Tower, looking across the river at the Bund. Designed by Jean Nouvel and opened in July 2021, it hosts large international loan exhibitions; one ticket covers every show on that day. Come for the current exhibition and stay for the Mirror Hall and the roof terrace view.

## What to do

- **See the current big exhibition.** MAP changes its main shows every few months, usually large loans from foreign museums or artists; one ticket covers every exhibition open that day. Check the official exhibition list before you buy.
- **Look into Hall X.** Hall X is the tall central space for large-scale installations. Check the current exhibition list to see which work occupies it on your visit day.
- **Stand in the Mirror Hall.** The Mirror Hall (镜厅) on 2F–3F is a huge glass wall with screens behind it; when the screens are off it reflects the Huangpu River and the Bund opposite.
- **Go up to the 5F terrace.** The top-floor terrace looks straight at the Oriental Pearl Tower, the river and the Bund skyline; visitors rate it as a highlight after the galleries.
- **Have coffee inside.** A Manner Coffee branch inside the museum serves ticket holders only, and there is a rooftop restaurant.

- Don't miss: The view of the Bund from the Mirror Hall windows and the 5F terrace, especially after dark.

- Best time: Weekdays, or after 17:00 for night views
- Skip if: Skip it if none of the current exhibitions interests you; the shows change and there is no permanent collection on display.

## Traveler tips

- **Pick the right ticket for your day.** Prices depend on the day: an adult dated ticket is ¥100 on weekdays and ¥150 at weekends, and seniors, students and visitors with disabilities pay ¥80 or ¥120 with proof. Children 6 and under or 1.2 m and shorter are free. One ticket covers every exhibition open that day but only one entry, and tickets cannot be refunded. The ticket page does not say whether public holidays are charged at the weekday or weekend rate; the open-date pass charges holidays at the weekend rate. - **Go after 17:00 for the night view.** A night ticket for entry after 17:00 costs ¥80 on weekdays and ¥120 at weekends, and two adults with night tickets can bring one child under 18 free. The museum is open to 21:00 (last entry 20:00) every day. A visitor who used the night ticket said the lit-up riverbanks made the Mirror Hall and terrace views better than by day. _Caveat: The January 2025 note supports an evening visit and river views only. Ticket amounts, child concessions and current last entry come from the museum’s own ticket page._ (2 travelers) [source](https://us.trip.com/review/museum-of-art-pudong-124908212-200461178?locale=en-US)
- **Buy on Trip.com from abroad.** The museum's ticket page has a button for foreign visitors that opens Trip.com; Chinese visitors use the 浦东美术馆 WeChat mini-program. Routine time-slot booking has been cancelled: buy a ticket for your date, then check whether the museum has activated timed entry for peak crowds. A small number of tickets are kept for sale at the museum, but they can run out. _Caveat: The museum may temporarily limit visitors and require timed booking on busy days; overseas checkout and passport handling have not been tested._ [source](https://www.museumofartpd.org.cn/ticketing)
- **Don't skip the Mirror Hall and terrace.** After the galleries, find the Mirror Hall (镜厅) on 2F–3F: a glass wall with screens behind it that reflects the river and the Bund when the screens are off. Then take the lift to the 5F terrace, which looks straight at the Oriental Pearl Tower and across to Puxi. Several visitors say these were as memorable as the exhibition. - **See Morandi before 28 October.** Giorgio Morandi. Solo (乔治·莫兰迪：独白) closes on 28 Oct 2026. One museum ticket covers all exhibitions open on the day. [source](https://www.museumofartpd.org.cn/en/index)
- **Coffee needs a museum ticket.** The Manner Coffee inside MAP only serves people holding a museum ticket, so plan your coffee break during the visit rather than before it. There is also a rooftop restaurant. [source](https://www.museumofartpd.org.cn/restaurant)
- **Labels are in good English.** A couple who visited in August 2026 found the layout comfortable, the museum not busy and the English translations very good. Another August 2026 visitor came for a big-name show and found it less interesting than expected, so look at the exhibition list before paying weekend prices. - **See la Galerie du 19M.** la Galerie du 19M SHANGHAI runs until 15 Nov 2026. One museum ticket covers it alongside other exhibitions open on your visit day. [source](https://www.museumofartpd.org.cn/en/index)
- **See the Hall X whale installation.** Carolina Caycedo: Salute of the Whales is scheduled in Hall X until 21 Feb 2027. Check the exhibition list for current access before visiting. [source](https://www.museumofartpd.org.cn/en/index)
