Why go
Long Museum West Bund (龙美术馆西岸馆) is one of China's largest private museums, founded by collectors Liu Yiqian and Wang Wei. The building is the draw as much as the art: curved concrete 'umbrella' vaults rise around a 1950s coal-hopper bridge left from the old riverside wharf. This entry is the West Bund branch, not the Pudong branch.
What to do
- Stand under the concrete vaults. Atelier Deshaus built the 2014 museum from free-standing walls that curve into vaulted 'umbrellas', with spiral stairs down to white-box galleries in the former basement car park.
- Find the coal-hopper bridge. A 110-metre concrete coal-hopper unloading bridge from the 1950s, part of the old coal wharf, was kept in front of the museum and frames the entrance.
- See the current sculpture shows. Check the current contemporary-art exhibition before buying a ticket; the museum uses its curved galleries for changing sculpture and installation shows.
- See the red classics collection. Continue into the lower galleries, where the museum presents works from its private collection alongside rotating special exhibitions.
- Don't miss: The coal-hopper bridge outside the main entrance, easy to walk past on the way in.

Traveler tips
- Buy at the museum service desk. Long Museum West Bund sells tickets only at its service desk; there is no online ticket channel and no advance booking. Check the current exhibition tariff before visiting, and bring proof if claiming a student or other concession. source
- National Day: two-for-one, then a free day. On 1–3 October 2026, buy at the service desk for the Wallace Chan exhibition and two people enter for the price of one. The ticket is for that day only. The museum warns that these galleries are dim and have several steps. source
- Use the first-Tuesday free day. The West Bund branch is free to the public on the first Tuesday of every month. Special exhibitions are excluded, and the rule does not apply when that Tuesday is a holiday. If your trip includes a first Tuesday, ask at the desk which galleries the free entry covers. source
- Late nights Friday to Sunday. In summer time (1 April–31 October) the museum opens 10:00–18:00 Tuesday to Thursday and 10:00–21:00 Friday to Sunday, with last entry an hour before closing. From 1 November it closes at 17:30 Tuesday to Thursday and 20:00 Friday to Sunday. A Friday or Saturday evening visit fits after a day elsewhere, and the riverside is lit at night. - Do not go to the Pudong branch. Long Museum has two Shanghai buildings. This one is at 3398 Longteng Avenue, Xuhui (龙腾大道3398号), near Metro Lines 7/12 Longhua Middle Road. The Pudong branch on Luoshan Road opens only on the first Tuesday of each month. When you show a taxi driver the address, use the Chinese name 龙美术馆（西岸馆）. source
- Take Exit 5 at Longhua Middle Road. Take Metro Line 7 or 12 to Longhua Middle Road (龙华中路) and leave by Exit 5, as the museum directs. The West Bund district site gives about 10 minutes on foot to the river. Bus Tunnel Line 8 stops at 船厂路中山南二路, about 5 minutes away. source

You walk through corridors tracing his Venice Biennale works before reaching three titanium forms 7, 8 and 10 metres tall.
