## Why go

The Jinsha Site Museum (金沙遗址博物馆) protects the excavated site of a Shu-kingdom capital in northwest Chengdu, including a ritual area by an old riverbank. It normally shows its gold, jade, bronze, ivory and lacquer finds. The whole museum is closed for a rebuild, so for now this page is mainly about where to see the Jinsha story instead.

## What to do

- **When it reopens: walk the Relics Hall over the ritual area.** The Relics Hall (遗迹馆) stands over the excavated ritual area where the Jinsha people held ceremonies by the river.
- **When it reopens: meet the gold, jade and ivory finds.** The Exhibition Hall (陈列馆) normally shows the site's gold, jade, bronze, stone, pottery and lacquered-wood finds. Fragile ivory and lacquer need careful conservation.
- **Follow the treasures to other museums.** A group of Jinsha objects is on long-term show at the Sichuan Museum, the Chengdu Museum and the Sanxingdui Museum while the museum is closed.

- Don't miss: The museum is closed in every area until the rebuild ends.

- Best time: Not open to visitors during the rebuild
- Skip if: Skip until the museum announces its reopening hours and booking rules.

## Traveler tips

- **Closed to every visitor until the rebuild ends.** The Jinsha Site Museum (金沙遗址博物馆) is closed in all areas, including the park, the Relics Hall and the Exhibition Hall, for its first full upgrade since 2007. Do not plan a visit until the museum announces the reopening. _Caveat: The official closure runs 5 Dec 2025 to 30 Apr 2027 as published on the museum site; the museum has not published reopening hours, prices or booking rules yet. Visitor posts from Nov and Dec 2025 repeat these dates. A few paraphrase the end date as the reopening date; the museum has only said it is closed until then and has announced no reopening date or booking method. Comments as late as May 2026 show people still arriving unaware._ (4 travelers) [source](https://www.sclyxw.com/contents/20260423/9957.html)
- **See Jinsha treasures at other museums.** While the museum is closed, a group of Jinsha objects is on long-term show at the Sichuan Museum, the Chengdu Museum and the Sanxingdui Museum, with other pieces touring Chinese and overseas venues. _Caveat: The museum names the three venues but not which objects are on show. Popular museums can sell out in holiday periods, and the Sichuan Museum needs real-name booking through its WeChat service account. No visitor has reported seeing Jinsha objects at these venues since the closure began. 2026 posts describe only short loans that have ended (the National Museum of China from January to August; one report of the Chengdu Museum in February), so check each host museum's notice for what is on show._ [source](https://www.sclyxw.com/contents/20260423/9957.html)
- **The gold ornament is in storage.** The Sun and Immortal Birds gold ornament (太阳神鸟金饰) came back to Chengdu from Beijing and was checked in on 26 August 2026 before going into storage for conservation. Do not build a trip around seeing it until the museum or a host venue announces a display. _Caveat: The museum's 26 August 2026 article says the lent objects return to storage after handover; it does not say whether any will be shown before the museum reopens. One visitor post (熊芭芭, Feb 2026) says the ornament and the gold mask were on a short display at the Chengdu Museum until 8 March; the museum's own January 2026 notice said the ornament was in its storage until the Beijing showing, so this account could not be confirmed; any such display has ended._ [source](https://www.xiaohongshu.com/explore/6a883a0e0000000028022f0e)
- **Check tour listings for Jinsha entry.** Some one-day Chengdu tours still advertise Jinsha Site Museum tickets alongside Sanxingdui. With the museum closed, ask the seller what replaces the Jinsha stop and what refund applies. _Caveat: A NebulaTrip listing still offered a Jinsha entry ticket on 8 October 2026. This is a commercial listing, not an operator statement._ [source](https://www.nebulatrip.com/tours/chengdu-sanxingdui-jinsha-museums-bronze-culture-tour/)
- **Browse the digital hall online.** The museum says its online cloud-viewing platform (云观展平台), reachable through the museum website or its WeChat service account, lets you walk through digital galleries during the closure. _Caveat: Whether the platform has English text is not stated._ [source](https://www.xiaohongshu.com/explore/698ed8fa000000001600a082)
- **Metro Line 7 Exit C, or Line 2 Exit B.** On reopening, Metro Line 7 Jinsha Site Museum station (Exit C) and Line 2 Yipin Tianxia station (Exit B) are the metro options. The site has a south gate (Jinsha Site Road 2), an east gate (Qingyang Avenue 227) and a north gate (Jinbo Road 3). _Caveat: From the museum’s traffic page, which is undated and written before the closure; gates may change in the rebuild. Posts by Rainee想戒拖延症 (Dec 2025) and 嗨妈Himom (Nov 2025) also name Line 7 Exit C and Line 2 Exit B before the closure._ (2 travelers) [source](https://www.xiaohongshu.com/explore/693e8fe7000000001e012968)
- **Pre-closure concessions needed Chinese papers.** Before the closure the adult ticket was ¥70, and the half-price ticket (¥35) for students and minors aged 6–18 needed a Chinese ID or student certificate or a Hong Kong, Macau or Taiwan permit. Foreign permanent-residence card holders aged 60 and over, and children up to 1.3 m including foreign children, were free with a guardian who paid. _Caveat: These are the pre-closure ticket rules; the reopening prices and concessions have not been announced._ [source](https://www.jinshasitemuseum.com/info/694)
- **Foreign-language guides were reservable by phone.** Before the closure, foreign-language human guiding lasted about an hour and cost ¥70 each for 1–3 people or ¥60 each for four or more; it was reserved by phone one day ahead. Free online audio guides came in eight languages including English, and audio devices rented for ¥20 or ¥40. _Caveat: Pre-closure services read on the museum’s English site; the rebuilt museum may change them._ [source](https://www.jinshasitemuseum.com/site-75/node/300)
- **Jinsha shop in central Chengdu, no relics.** Jinsha Cultural Creative Chunxi Store opened on trial at the north end of Chunxi Road on 23 May 2026, with a Sun and Immortal Birds pattern café and souvenirs. It is a gift shop, not a place to see excavated objects. _Caveat: From the museum's 23 May 2026 article about the trial opening; opening hours were not stated._ [source](https://www.jinshasitemuseum.com/info/4767)
- **Before the closure: volunteer tours and gate guides.** Before the closure, free volunteer tours left from the east gate of the Relics Hall (遗址馆东门) at 10:00 and 15:00 and lasted about 100 minutes. Official guides could be booked at the service centre, while freelancers at the gate offered cheaper group tours of uneven quality. When the museum reopens, check its current guiding service before you pay anyone at the gate. _Caveat: All three accounts are from before the closure (Sep to Dec 2025). Ai4bliss gives the volunteer times and says the schedule may change; Momo paid ¥30 for a gate guide found poor, then ¥50 for an official half-hour tour that was much better; 嗨妈Himom saw group-buy gate guides at ¥20 and says the official service is at the service centre. Commenters under Momo's post reported mixed results with both kinds. The language of the volunteer tours is not stated, and the rebuilt museum may change all of this._ (3 travelers) [source](https://www.xiaohongshu.com/explore/68caa8350000000012021092)
