## Why go

Guangfulin (广富林文化遗址) in Songjiang is billed as 'the root of Shanghai': the site of a Neolithic culture 4,000–5,000 years old. Today it is a lakeside park of rebuilt Jiangnan halls and striking modern museums whose roofs float on the water. The grounds are free; museums and other optional activities may charge separately.

## What to do

- **See the floating Culture Museum.** The Guangfulin Culture Museum (广富林文化展示馆) is three buildings partly submerged in the lake, so only the roofs seem to float. It covers Shanghai from the Neolithic to the Han dynasty.
- **Visit the pot-shaped Archaeology Museum.** The Archaeological Site Museum (考古遗址展示馆) is designed to look like clay pots and shows finds from the dig.
- **Walk the halls and Fulin Tower.** Free outdoor areas include Chen Zilong's Memorial Hall, Fulin Tower (富林塔) and several temples among canals and bridges.

- Don't miss: Chen Zilong's Memorial Hall (陈子龙纪念馆), a small hall for the late-Ming poet that is easy to walk past among the rebuilt buildings.

- Best time: Weekday mornings; spring blossom
- Skip if: Skip it if you are short on time; it is far out and works best combined with Chenshan or Sheshan.
