## Why go

Fuxing Park (复兴公园) opened in 1909 as the 'French Park'. It keeps a formal French layout: sunken flower beds, a rose garden and more than 1,700 plane trees over 50 years old. By day it is a calm stop between Xintiandi and the old French Concession streets. From Wednesday to Sunday evenings the old funfair turns into a lit-up night playground.

## What to do

- **Walk the French flower beds.** Start at the sunken flower garden (沉床花坛) and the rose garden, then the lotus pond and rockery. Look for the Marx and Engels statue on the lawn.
- **Smell the October osmanthus.** More than 100 osmanthus trees (桂花) bloom in September and October, mostly around the rose garden, the Chinese garden and the sunken flower beds.
- **Ride the night funfair.** From Wednesday to Sunday, 19:00–22:00, the renovated amusement park runs a carousel, bumper cars and a small coaster under stage lights. Rides cost about ¥30 each, or ¥88/¥99 in a bundle.
- **Play the 'burning' piano.** After dark, an old piano wrapped in orange light and mist stands among the light installations, and visitors may play it. Nearby are a giant disco ball and trees that light up when you clap.
- **Pass the old wooden gate.** The wooden South Gate at Fuxing Middle Road and Chongqing South Road is the park's historic entrance, kept when the walls came down in 2022.

- Don't miss: The 2022 wisteria pergola along Chongqing South Road (重庆南路), where the old wall used to be.

- Best time: Early morning, or Wed–Sun after 19:00
- Skip if: Skip the evening if crowds, smoke effects and loud music bother you; the daytime park is quiet.

## Traveler tips

- **Come for the evening, not just the day.** Official pages disagree on closing time: the city's English guide lists 05:00–21:00, while the tourism bureau and 2022 news say the park went 24-hour when its walls came down.
